When George Washington and Harriet Melissa married, his father gave them two slaves (who chose to stay with the family rather than go free). The negro couple's names were aunt Easter and uncle Bill. The older children had many memories of the nice things done for them by aunt Easter, who always wore a big bonnet and big white aprons.

After G.W. Blasingame and Harriet Melissa Rooks were married in Georgia in 1866, they lived in Georgia several years. Three of their children were born there:
Emma Loretta Virgina, Fairy Lee, Walter William.
In 1872, the family moved to Beach Springs, Neshoba Co., Mississippi. Here two children were born:
Mary Frances Elmina (Molly), Nannie Louella.
In 1876, the family moved to Newton Co., Mississippi (30 miles from Meridian?). They attended Hickory Methodist Church. While living here their home burned and the Family Bible with all genealogical data burned. Soon after they moved here, Harriet Melissa's parents moved here, too, but did not stay long, because the country was so underdeveloped they did not like it. The following children were born here:
Minnie Alma Melissa, Jesse Marcus DeLafette, James Alonzo, George Vannoy, Lizzie Lee.
In 1892, the family all came to Texas by train (ferried across the Mississippi River) to Eddy, McLennan Co., Texas. Relaties met them and they traveled in buggy and wagon to Blevins, Falls Co., Texas, where they lived on a farm many years. Then they moved to Barclay Ranch (R.F.D. Rosebud, Texas).
This Blasingame Family was very artistic--all were musicians, each playing several instruments, and were good singers. All danced and went to many parties--a very, very gay group.
All attended Methodist Sunday School and Church regularly.
