will in 1847. A copy of Peter's will is on P. 308 in THE BYERLYS OF CAROLINA.
He died on 2 Sep 1852 in Reedy Creek, NC. He was buried in Friendship Methodist
Episcopal Church Cemetary. In the Pilgrim Church Records his birthdate is given
by his father, John
Martin Byerly, as 1775; in the 1840 census he is listed as born between
1770-80; in the 1850 census his age is seventy-two and therefore he was
born in 1778. However, on his tombstone he is eighty-one years of age at
death in 1852 and therefore born in 1771.
Peter Byerly (the oldest son of Jacob Byerly was born in 1771 and died 2
sep 1852 aged 81 yrs.) He was most probably born and reared in Holly
Grove in Eastern Davidson County but about 1800 moved to the western part
of the county close to the Yadkin River. In the Rowan County Tax lists
(1802-1804) he is listed under Captain Reed's Company (1802) as having 300
acres of land. In 1803 it was 350 acres and his name was spelled Peter
BIARLY. He was a life long farmer in the upper Yadkin River section of
Davidson County and a Methodist. He gave to the Friendship Methodist
Episcopal Church the land for their church and is buried there.
Peter married first Eva Frank, daughter of William Frank and Barbara Walk.
(The children of Revolutionary War Patriot William Frank intermarried with
the Byerly family and allied families in the late 1790s and early 1800s).
Peter Byerly's will, written in 1847 names his second wife, all his
children, names his first wife and indicates that he was a prosperous
plantation owner with slaves and a large land holding.

Phillip
BYERLY was born between 1735 and 1740 in PA or Germany. He died between
1795 and 1800. He has Ancestral File number 1VR6-5V. Phillip's residence shifted
from Rowan Co. to Randolph Co., NC about 1780,
either by his moving or by the change of county boundary lines.
The first Federal Census shows Phillip in Randolph Co., NC, but he does
not appear thereafter. The Census of 1800 shows Mary Byerly as head of
hosehold who was then over 45 yrs. with one son under ten, one son between
10/16 and two daughters between 16/26. This is the widow and younger
children of Phillip. In addition, a married son, David, is shown with
three sons and two daughters, each under the age of 10. No Byerlys are
shown in the Census records of Randolph Co, NC from 1800 to 1840 and it is
believed that the descendants of Phillip all moved to Indiana about 1810.
The Byerly family disappears from Randolph Co. and does not reappear until
the 1840 census when David Andrew Byerly (son of Martin Byerly and great
nephew of Phillip) moved in.
Phillip received 231 arces of land from his father's original Crown
purchase of 1763. He was listed as taking the Oath of Allegiance to the
state in 1778. (After having failed to come forward earlier and having
bneen listed as a Troy!) Parents: John Jacob BYERLY I
and Mary Elizabeth.

BYERLY was born on 24 Dec 1776. He died on 22 Sep 1846 in Floyd Co., IN.

in the home of her son-in-law, Madison Martin in Floyd Co. Phillip Byerly first
entered 160 acres of givernment land in what is now Greenville Township in Floyd
Co., IN on 24 Aug 1812. On 6 Dec 1813, he entered an adjoining tract of 160 acres
and there after he acquired a number of land holdings by government patent and
by deed both in Floyd and in Harrison Counties in Indiana. He is listed among
the organizers of St. John's Lutheran Church near Byrneville, IN, prior to 1820.
