A letter came for Bessie from Cary. He was there when it came but Bessie didn't know it. He hid so he could see her reaction to his letter, but when she opened it, he jumped out and asked if he could read it for her. Addie Pack Burton and her husband, Sam, were also living with Delia and Charlie (her parents). Eugenia remembers when one of the babies died and was laid out in the front parlor.
